Dmitry Smirnov (Russia) wins the Concours international de violon Tibor Varga Sion Valais 2015. Ji Won Song (Korea) is second, Yuliia Van (Germany) third. Dmitry Smirnov gains the audience award.
A compulsory piece, composed by Hugues Dufourt, which tests the limits of the instrument - «Le mani del violonista» - and the concerto no. 2 in c minor, op. 129, of Dimitri Shostakovitch: the successful interpretations of the Russian violinist Dmitry Smirnov convinced the jury, and put him on the right way to gain the first award of the Concours international de violon Tibor Varga Sion Valais 2015, on August, 26 at the Ferme Asile, in Sion (Switzerland), with the Chamber Orchestra of Lausanne (conductor: Gilbert Varga). Ji Won Song (Korea) took the second prize, Yuliia Van (Germany) the third place.
The special prizes were awarded to Dmitry Smirnov (audience award, best compulsory piece award) and Yuliia Van (young jurors award).
The jury of the Concours international de violon Tibor Varga Sion Valais were formed by Enzo Restagno (president), Hugues Dufourt, Dong-Suk Kang, Tsugio Tokunaga, Raimund Trenkler standing for Natalia Gutman, absent due to health problems, Pavel Vernikov and Milan Vitek.
